Lake Khuvsgul
Lake Khuvsgul is located in Khuvsgul province, northwest of Mongolia, 1000 km away from Ulaanbaatar. This lake is 1645 meters above the sea level, 136 km long, 36 km wide, 262 meters deep and it holds 70% of Mongolian fresh water, 1% of all the freshwater in the World. There are 46 rivers feeding Khuvsgul Lake, 70% of the bottom of the lake is over 100 meters deep, it freezes totally by the end of the November and ice width reaches 1 meter. Lake has 12 species of fish, such as siberian grayling. In the lake there are Modon Khui, Khadan Khui, Dalain Khui, and Baga Khui islands, the biggest one is Dalain Khui 126 meters high about the lake, 3 km long, 2 km wide, the area of 5.8 square kilometer. In the taiga in Northern Khuvsgul province, a minority ethnic group of people called Tsaatan live by herding their reindeer, with their own language, religion, a unique way of life and hunting in the taiga. They live in a harsh climate of minus 31-50 degree celsius in the winter.
